Growing Green in Orange County, North Carolina
Fernrock Farm, located in Orange County outside of Hillsborough, cultivates 2 acres of specialty cut flowers, produce and fruit. Bill Brown and Carrie McCann began commercial farming in 2008 and raise a wide range of products sold at local farmers markets and at their farm stand.
Flowers include tulips, larkspur, zinnias, gladioli, black eyed Susans, sunflowers, daisies, and phlox. Dahlias are a focal crop with over 1000 cultivated covering the full color spectrum: red, orange, yellow, pink, coral, purple, and white. Produce selections include tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and squash with grapes, watermelons, peaches, and blackberries making up the fruit category. Bedding plants such as tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, as well as annuals and perennials, are also raised. |
